93e0265e4e Move source code to src/ directory
Once in a while, we receive complaints from other fellow KDE developers
about the file organization of kwin. This change addresses some of those
complaints by moving all of source code in a separate directory, src/,
thus making the project structure more traditional. Things such as tests
are kept in their own toplevel directories.

This change may wreak havoc on merge requests that add new files to kwin,
but if a patch modifies an already existing file, git should be smart
enough to figure out that the file has been relocated.

We may potentially split the src/ directory further to make navigating
the source code easier, but hopefully this is good enough already.

b8a70e62d5 Introduce RenderLoop
At the moment, our frame scheduling infrastructure is still heavily
based on Xinerama-style rendering. Specifically, we assume that painting
is driven by a single timer, etc.

This change introduces a new type - RenderLoop. Its main purpose is to
drive compositing on a specific output, or in case of X11, on the
overlay window.

With RenderLoop, compositing is synchronized to vblank events. It
exposes the last and the next estimated presentation timestamp. The
expected presentation timestamp can be used by effects to ensure that
animations are synchronized with the upcoming vblank event.

On Wayland, every outputs has its own render loop. On X11, per screen
rendering is not possible, therefore the platform exposes the render
loop for the overlay window. Ideally, the Scene has to expose the
RenderLoop, but as the first step towards better compositing scheduling
it's good as is for the time being.

The RenderLoop tries to minimize the latency by delaying compositing as
close as possible to the next vblank event. One tricky thing about it is
that if compositing is too close to the next vblank event, animations
may become a little bit choppy. However, increasing the latency reduces
the choppiness.

Given that, there is no any "silver bullet" solution for the choppiness
issue, a new option has been added in the Compositing KCM to specify the
amount of latency. By default, it's "Medium," but if a user is not
satisfied with the upstream default, they can tweak it.

6b2e6cfd53 Prevent EGL headers from including Xlib headers
One of the annoying things about EGL headers is that they include
platform headers by default, e.g. on X11, it's Xlib.h, etc.

The problem with Xlib.h is that it uses the define compiler directive to
declare constants and those constants have very generic names, e.g.
'None', which typically conflict with enums, etc.

In order to work around bad things coming from Xlib.h, we include
fixx11.h file that contains some workarounds to redefine some Xlib's
types.

There's a flag or rather two flags (EGL_NO_PLATFORM_SPECIFIC_TYPES and
EGL_NO_X11) that are cross-vendor and they can be used to prevent EGL
headers from including platform specific headers, such as Xlib.h [1]

The benefit of setting those two flags is that you can simply include
EGL/egl.h or epoxy/egl.h and the world won't explode due to Xlib.h

MESA_EGL_NO_X11_HEADERS is set to support older versions of Mesa.

bdfb946267 Convert Night Color into a plugin
Night Color adjusts the color temperature based on the current time in
your location. It's not a generic color correction module per se.

We need a central component that can be used by both night color and
colord integration to tweak gamma ramps and which will be able to
resolve conflicts between the two. The Night Color manager cannot be
such a thing because of its very specific usecase.

This change converts Night Color into a plugin to prepare some space for
such a component.

The tricky part is that the dbus api of Night Color has "ColorCorrect"
in its name. I'm afraid we cannot do that much about it without breaking
API compatibility.

9c20df5030 screencast: Use fences to avoid stalling the graphics pipeline
Currently, we use glFinish() to ensure that stream consumers don't see
corrupted or rather incomplete buffers. This is a serious issue because
glFinish() not only prevents the gpu from processing new GL commands,
but it also blocks the compositor.

This change addresses the blocking issue by using native fences. With
the proposed change, after finishing recording a frame, a fence is
inserted in the command stream. When the native fence is signaled, the
pending pipewire buffer will be enqueued.

If the EGL_ANDROID_native_fence_sync extension is not supported, we'll
fall back to using glFinish().

292335beac Introduce persistent global share context
On Wayland, internal windows that use OpenGL are rendered into fbos,
which are later handed over to kwin. In order to achieve that, our QPA
creates OpenGL contexts that share resources with the scene's context.

The problems start when compositing has been restarted. If user changes
any compositing settings, the underlying render backend will be
reinitialized and with it, the scene's context will be destroyed. Thus,
we no longer can accept framebuffer objects from internal windows.

This change addresses the framebuffer object sharing problem by adding
a so called global share context. It persists throughout the lifetime of
kwin. It can never be made current. The scene context and all contexts
created in our QPA share resources with it.

Therefore we can destroy the scene OpenGL context without affecting
OpenGL contexts owned by internal windows, e.g. the outline visual or
tabbox.

It's worth noting that Qt provides a way to create a global share
context. But for our purposes it's not suitable since the share
context must be known when QGuiApplication attempts to instantiate a
QOpenGLContext object. At that moment, the backend is not initialized
and thus the EGLDisplay is not available yet.

df3c1de848 [platforms/drm] Rework enablement and dpms switching
Summary:
This patch further refines output management.

We go now through AbstractWaylandOutput virtual functions to enable and
disable outputs.

Dpms changes and enablement switches use separate code paths at start in the
Drm backend code since they are similar but not the directly same. Common code
is shared though, functions are renamed accordingly.

Asserts have been put in place to better understand and check the control
flow. A seemingly unnecessary call to DrmOutput::pageFlipped on reactivation
after Vt switch has been removed to allow for that.

In future patches we need to look additionally at the legacy mode switching
code path which was and is still not working and better handling of the
current monitor Dpms state. For example a monitor being switched off is not
properly acted on and the workspace still expanded.

Test Plan:
With one and two monitors:
* Dpms off/on
* Vt switches
* Screen disable/enable

684b4b635e Use more traditional doxygen style
Summary:
So far we were following a bit unique and rare doxygen comment style:

    /**
     * Contents of the comment.
     **/

Doxygen comments with this style look balanced and neat, but many people
that contribute to KWin don't follow this style. Instead, they prefer
more traditional doxygen comment style, i.e.

    /**
     * Contents of the comment.
     */

Reviewing such changes has been a bit frustrating for me (so selfish!)
and for other contributors.

This change switches doxygen comment style in KWin to a more traditional
style. The main reason for doing this is to make code review process easier
for new contributors as well us.

8af2fa73dc Run clang-tidy with modernize-use-override check
Summary:
Currently code base of kwin can be viewed as two pieces. One is very
ancient, and the other one is more modern, which uses new C++ features.

The main problem with the ancient code is that it was written before
C++11 era. So, no override or final keywords, lambdas, etc.

Quite recently, KDE compiler settings were changed to show a warning if
a virtual method has missing override keyword. As you might have already
guessed, this fired back at us because of that ancient code. We had
about 500 new compiler warnings.

A "solution" was proposed to that problem - disable -Wno-suggest-override
and the other similar warning for clang. It's hard to call a solution
because those warnings are disabled not only for the old code, but also
for new. This is not what we want!

The main argument for not actually fixing the problem was that git
history will be screwed as well because of human factor. While good git
history is a very important thing, we should not go crazy about it and
block every change that somehow alters git history. git blame allows to
specify starting revision for a reason.

The other argument (human factor) can be easily solved by using tools
such as clang-tidy. clang-tidy is a clang-based linter for C++. It can
be used for various things, e.g. fixing coding style(e.g. add missing
braces to if statements, readability-braces-around-statements check),
or in our case add missing override keywords.

Test Plan: Compiles.

cbbe94d769 Restrict available supported compositors based on first initialized one
Summary:
On Wayland we cannot switch from OpenGL to QPainter compositor as this
would break any running OpenGL application. KWin registers it's
EGLDisplay to Wayland and without OpenGL this doesn't make sense any
more. We are not able to render OpenGL buffers in the QPainter
compositor.

While it's theoretically possible to switch from QPainter to OpenGL it
doesn't make any sense for the same reason. Any running OpenGL
application would be using llvmpipe and could not be switched to proper
OpenGL.

This change stores the selected compositing type in Platform and the
implementations can use it to restrict the supported compositors. On X11
we don't need this, all other Platforms implement the restriction. Thus
it's no longer possible to switch the backends at runtime.

Test Plan:
Adjusted tests run, no runtime test as gui doesn't support
switching to QPainter anyway.

82d2860469 [colorcorrection] Night Color - blue light filter at nighttime
With Wayland KWin needs to provide certain services, which were provided
before that by the Xserver. One of these is gamma correction, which includes
the - by many people beloved - functionality to reduce the blue light at

but in the end will work in tandem with a lib in Plasma Workspace and a KCM
in Plasma Desktop, which can be used to configure Night Color.

* Three modi:
** Automatic: The location and sun timings are determined automatically
(location data updates will be provided by the workspace)
** Location: The sun timings are determined by fixed location data
** Timings: The sun timings are set manually by the user
* Color temperature value changes are smoothly applied:
** Configuration changes, which lead to other current values are changed
in a quick way over a few seconds
** Changes on sunrise and sunset are applied slowly over the course of few
minutes till several hours depending on the configuration
* The current color value is set immediately at startup or after suspend
phases and VT switches. There is no flickering.
* All configuration is done via a DBus interface, changed values are tested
  on correctness and applied atomically
* Self contained mechanism, speaks directly to the hardware by setting the
  gamma ramps on the CRTC
* Currently working on DRM backend, extensible to other platform backends in
  the future
* The code is written in a way to make the classes later easily extendable to
also provide normal color correction, as it's currently done by KGamma on X

X11 standalone Platform a new EffectsHandlerImplX11 is added which
contains the X11 only parts of the EffectsHandler, such as grabbing the
X keyboard and the X11 mouse interception window.

The EffectsHandlerImpl gains some virtual methods for the parts which
are now done in the X11 specific implementation. In return we get rid of
lots of if-else structures checking for the operation mode.

Test Plan: Only compile tested.

9381411b91 Pass EGL information from AbstractEglBackend to Platform instead of query
Summary:
So far the Platform performed a deep query into the AbstractEglBackend
to get information such as EGLContext, EGLConfig, EGLSurface. This
change adjusts this so that the AbstractEGLPlatform forwards it directly
whenever it gets informed about one following the approach already used
for EGLDisplay. This simplifies the code a lot and allows to remove the
dependency on the actual scene backend from the Platform (in order to
split out the SceneOpenGL into a plugin).

Test Plan:
Run nested kwin_wayland, triggered Outline which requires all
those methods.

51561052ec Move screen inversion through XRandr into X11 standalone platform
Summary:
By moving the functionality into the Platform API we can also implement
support on other platforms which support this in general (e.g. DRM once
Roman's color adjustment patches landed).

23ef40e638 Move the X11 Decoration Renderer into the X11 standalone platform
Summary:
Not needed except for X11/non-composited usage, so should be in the
plugin instead of core.

Platform API is extended to create a decoration renderer.

a3dc2ad5a2 Move NonComposited Outline into the X11 standalone platform
Summary:
Creating the OutlineVisual is moved into the Platform API. The default
implementation creates the composited OutlineVisual. The X11 standalone
platform overrides it and creates the non composited outline in case no
compositing is used.

Test Plan:
Run kwin_x11 with KWIN_COMPOSE=N and KWIN_COMPOSE=X,
non composited outline and composited outline loaded
