At the moment, the desktop layout in _NET_DESKTOP_LAYOUT overwrites new
desktop layout with outdated information. This happens because kwin tries
to honor the desktop layout set by the pager. However, kwin itself
already acts as the pager. The pager applet in plasma doesn't attempt to
maintain _NET_DESKTOP_LAYOUT with proper values.
On the other hand, kwin trying to both update and also sync its state to
_NET_DESKTOP_LAYOUT and _NET_DESKTOP_NAMES has created a series of
issues, like lockups or rendering glitches.
Given that the window manager can ignore these properties, and the fact
that kwin already does act like a pager, this patch makes kwin ignore
external updates to _NET_DESKTOP_LAYOUT and _NET_DESKTOP_NAMES.
In order to modify the desktop layout on X11, use the dbus api. On
Wayland, either the dbus api or the virtual desktop wayland protocol.

BUG: 480371
VirtualDesktopManager::currentChanged() can be emitted with
previousDesktop being null/0. It can happen only on startup. After that,
it's always valid. In order to make the code that uses the
currentChanged signal less trickier, ensure that the current virtual
desktop is initialized when the virtual desktop config is loaded.
Due to being a compositor, kwin has to conform to some certain
interfaces. It means a lot of virtual functions and function tables to
integrate with C APIs. Naturally, we not always want to use every
argument in such functions.
Since we get -Wunused-parameter from -Wall, we have to plumb those
unused arguments in order to suppress compiler warnings at the moment.
However, I don't think that extra work is worth it. We cannot change or
alter prototypes in any way to fix the warning the desired way. Q_UNUSED
and similar macros are not good indicators of whether an argument is
used too, we tend to overlook putting or removing those macros. I've
also noticed that Q_UNUSED are not used to guide us with the removal no
longer needed parameters.
Therefore, I think it's worth adding -Wno-unused-parameter compiler
option to stop the compiler producing warnings about unused parameters.
It changes nothing except that we don't need to put Q_UNUSED anymore,
which can be really cumbersome sometimes. Note that it doesn't affect
unused variables, you'll still get a -Wunused-variable compiler warning
if a variable is unused.
With the addition of KGlobalAccel::globalShortcutActiveChanged(),
there's a way to monitor all triggered actions without adding any
boilerplate code.
This change removes the KGlobalAccel bits from the Platform class. This
reduces the amount of boilerplate code; currently we need to be careful
about ensuring that Platform::setupActionForKGlobalAccel() is called.
Another reason behind this change is to simplify the api of Platform and
remove things that don't have anything to do with outputs.
- Now only 1 GestureDirection enum
- Now only 1 registerGesture() call
- The 4 kinds of gesture (Pinch/Swipe) and (Touchpad/Touchscreen) in globalshortcuts.h/cpp are merged into 1 GestureShortcut
- Change from range to set of finger counts in gestures
No behavior should change, just a refactor.
Added this interface to the VirtualDesktopManager. Realtime touchpad gestures update the interface to allow for mac os style desktop switching.
Also makes gestured switching use natural direction.
BUG: 185710
Swipe with three fingers
- left to switch to the previous virtual desktop
- right to switch to the next virtual desktop
- up and down to toggle the overview
CCBUG: 439925
The .clang-format file is based on the one in ECM except the following
style options:
- AlwaysBreakBeforeMultilineStrings
- BinPackArguments
- BinPackParameters
- ColumnLimit
- BreakBeforeBraces
- KeepEmptyLinesAtTheStartOfBlocks
Occasionally, I see complaints about the file organization of kwin,
which is fair enough.
This change makes the source code more relocatable by removing relative
paths from includes.
CMAKE_CURRENT_SOURCE_DIR was added to the interface include directories
of kwin library. This means that as long as you link against kwin target,
the real location of the source code of the library doesn't matter.
With autotests, things are not as convenient as with kwin target. Some
tests use cpp files from kwin core. If we move all source code in a src/
directory, they will need to be adjusted, but mostly only in build
scripts.
The main advantage of SPDX license identifiers over the traditional
license headers is that it's more difficult to overlook inappropriate
licenses for kwin, for example GPL 3. We also don't have to copy a
lot of boilerplate text.
In order to create this change, I ran licensedigger -r -c from the
toplevel source directory.
Kwin's VirtualDesktop saved a different configuration per X screen. This
messes up with a recent refactor of our startup as now we load
virtualdesktops before the X11 screen number is set and we load from the
group "Desktops-screen--1" then save to another place.
For a wayland session it doesn't make sense to have such a strong X
tie-in. We may as well just tidy this up.
Multihead has been deprecated for a decade. There is absolutely no way
Plasma supports it. Worst case if someone magically is using mutlihead
they just get syncronised virtual desktops.
BUG: 424571
Summary:
* save changes to the config files when the layout is saved
* :name() works even if netrootinfo isn't there
* as soon a rootinfo is set, connect all the desktops with name changes
Test Plan:
* tested with the kcm to add, remove and rename desktops, all of that works
* setting the number of rows still only partly works: kwin notices it but
the pager doesn't notice, a plasma restart is needed

implement virtual desktop support for Wayland.
use the new virtual desktop protocol from D12820
The VirtualDesktopManager class needed some big change in order
to accomodate it, which is where most changes are.
Other than that, it's mostly connections to wire up
VirtualDesktopsManager and VirtualDesktopsManagement(the wayland protocol impl)
Depends on D12820
Other notable detail, is the client visibility updated to reflect the presence
of the client in the plasmavirtualdesktop.
(and the unSetDesktop concept)
Test Plan: used a bit a plasma session together with D12820, D13748 and D13746

Summary:
This change adds global touchpad swipe gestures to the
GlobalShortcutsManager and hooks up the swipe gestures as defined at the
Plasma Affenfels sprint:
* swipe up: Desktop Grid
* swipe down: Present Windows
* swipe left: previous virtual desktop
* swipe right: next virtual desktop
The main work is handled by two new classes: SwipeGesture and
GestureRecognizer. This is implemented in a way that it can be extended
to also recognize touch screen gestures and pinch gestures.
The SwipeGesture defines what is required for the gesture to trigger.
Currently this includes the minimum and maximum number of fingers
participating in the gesture and the direction. The gesture gets
registered in the GestureRecognizer.
The events for the gesture are fed into the GestureRecognizer. It
evaluates which gestures could trigger and tracks them for every update
of the gesture. In the process of the gesture tracking the
GestureRecognizer emits signals on the Gesture:
* started: when the Gesture gets considered for a sequence
* cancelled: the Gesture no longer matches the sequence
* triggered: the sequence ended and the Gesture still matches
The remaining changes are related to hook up the existing shortcut
framework with the new touchpad gestures. The GlobalShortcutManager
gained support for it, InputRedirection and EffectsHandler offer methods
to register a QAction. VirtualDesktopManager, PresentWindows and
DesktopGrid are adjusted to support the gesture.

Summary:
InputRedirection has a workaround to add a connect on a QAction which
is used for a global shortcut. This is specific to the X11 platform as
the xtime needs to be updated.
This change adds a new virtual method to the Platform and moves the
implementation into the X11 standalone platform. Thus it does no longer
gets called on Wayland.

Summary:
The VirtualDesktopGrid is ported to the new VirtualDesktop objects. The
grid consists now of QVector<VirtualDesktop*> rows and a QVector of
those rows.
This change requires to adjust the code using the VirtualDesktopGrid.
This mostly affects VirtualDesktopManger. The methods for toLeft, above,
next, etc are now all operating on VirtualDesktop with the uint variants
- if still present - only delegating to the new method. The Functor
objects are also adjusted, though mostly still providing the old API for
compatibility.
In KWin core only one now ambiguous call is adjusted (useractions) and
the desktop grid usage in EffectsHandlerImpl is adjusted. Other usages
are not yet adjusted and need porting to fully get rid of the old
uint-based API.
Test Plan: VD test still passes

KGlobalAccel sets the timestamp as a property and we need to set our
x11Time to it otherwise following keyboard grabs might fail.
Requires 61e2a156678eef033b2629f7c72530dc78d7c3ac in kglobalaccel.
The default was set that the grid size for one desktop is (1, 2)
which doesn't make any sense at all - it should be (1, 1).
This most likely only affects the unit test as in production the
default layout is taken fron NETRootInfo.
